विपक्ष — The Opposition
विपक्ष (Vipaksh)means “the side standing opposite” in Sanskrit/Hindi. In parliamentary democracy, the opposition plays a critical role — holding the government accountable, debating policy, and offering alternative visions.
What is the विपक्ष (Vipaksh)?
The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha is the leader of the largest party (or alliance) that is not in government. They receive a salary, a bungalow, and a status equivalent to a Union Cabinet Minister. The current LoP in Lok Sabha is Rahul Gandhi (INC); in Rajya Sabha it is Mallikarjun Kharge (INC).
